Conductor: Michel Tilkin
Piano: Jayanat Wisaijorn
Beethoven: Piano Concerto No.1 in C major, Op.15
Beethoven: Symphony No.3 in E-flat major, Op. 55 (Eroica)
The program for the evening features two pieces by Ludwig van Beethoven.
The first is Piano Concerto No. 1 in C major, Opus 15. This piece was actually Beethoven’s second piano concerto but as it was the first to be performed and catalogued, it is recognized as Concerto No. 1. Beethoven makes daring deviations from one theme to another in this composition which has been received with mixed feelings for centuries.
The second Beethoven piece that will be performed is Symphony No. 3 in E-flat major, Opus 55, (EROICA). This symphony is a transition from the formality and restraint of classicism to the freedom of romanticism. It is widely regarded as a milestone piece for the development of the symphony. Beethoven’s third symphony, which bursts forth with emotion, provides a clear contrast from his much more restrained first two. Interestingly, this symphony is believed to have been originally dedicated to Napoleon Bonaparte but the title was angrily changed to ‘Eroica’ (Heroic) after Napoleon made himself Emperor.
The solo pianist for the evening is Jayanat Wisaijorn. He earned his Master’s of Music from Indiana University, Jacobs School of Music, and held the position of Associate Instructor in Piano. He has performed in concerts both locally in Thailand and around the world. Jayanat was a recipient of Fund for Classical Music Promotion under the Royal Patronage of HRH Princess Galyani Vadhana in 2011.
We hope you will be able to join us Saturday, December 26 at 7:30PM for this evening of beautiful music at the Thailand Cultural Centre, Main Hall.
