RBSO Young Talent sings Broadway

The 8 winners of the Fourth Year of the RBSO’s Search for Talent Vocal Competition (2019-2020) will be given the opportunity to showcase their singing abilities at the Main Hall of the Thailand Cultural Centre on Saturday, July 25, 2020 at 7.30 pm. Ranging from the age of 8 to 16, this year’s eight winners have already performed in front of the public at RBSO’s Concert in the Park at Chula Centenary Park earlier this year.

 

These 8 winners have accumulated various accolades in Thailand and abroad. They have performed and appeared in various staged musicals i.e. Dreambox Productions, and television programs. Although most of them are from Bangkok Metropolitan Area, two of them are hailed from upcountry: one from Chiang Mai and another from Khon Kaen.

 

For this year concert, they will perform well-known solo and ensemble selections from standard Broadway repertoire such as “Journey to the Past” and “Once Upon a December” (Anastasia), “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” (The Wizard of Oz), “Popular” and “For Good” (Wicked), “Home” (Beauty and the Beast), “Tomorrow” (Annie), “Someone Like you” (Jekyll & Hyde), “Forget about the Boy” (Throughly Modern Millie), “My Favorite Things” and “Do-Re-Mi” (The Sound of Music), “Love Changes Everything” (Aspects of Love). There would also be orchestral selections from shows such as My Fair Lady.

 

The RBSO is also pleased to welcome Vasuthida “January” Punwattana, who is a professional Thai Theatre Actress, based in New York and Bangkok. She is graduated in Vocal Performance (1st Class Honor) from Chulalongkorn University. In 2012, January moved to New York to pursue her Broadway dream in Broadway. She received an acting training (2-year conservatory program) at The Lee Strasberg Theatre and Film Institute before landing a number of major roles in, among others, The Music Man (Off-Broadway), Fame the Musical (International), Cinderella (International) and The Sound of Music (International).

 

Asst. Prof. Dr. Nora-ath Chanklum will return as the conductor. He is currently resident of the CU Symphony Orchestra and CU Strings Orchestra and also instructor at the Department of Music, Faculty of Fine and Applied Arts, Chulalongkorn University. He has recently been a recipient of the Silapathorn Award which honors living Thai contemporary artist. It was presented by the Office of Contemporary Art and Culture, Ministry of Culture. He has been a member of Search for Talent Vocal Competition committee for the past 3 years.
