B1

RBSO Concertmaster Bing Han has been established in her role for two years now, and appears once again as soloist with the orchestra in two Romantic period virtuoso works.  French composer Saint-Saëns dedicated his Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso to the Spanish violin supremo Pablo de Sarasate.  They premiered the wonderful work together at the Champs-Élysées in 1867, to great acclaim, with the composer conducting.  It immediately became a favourite amongst the virtuosi of the day, as did Sarasate’s own inspired arrangement of Bizet’s operatic masterpiece in the stunning Carmen Fantasy.  This sumptuous, French themed concert begins with Ibert’s delightfully colourful and amusing Divertissement, and concludes with another marvel of Bizet’s youthful brilliance, his one and only Symphony in C major.
