B2

Japanese conductor Hide Shindori makes another warmly anticipated return to work with the Royal Bangkok Symphony Orchestra.  Very popular with musicians and audiences alike, his annual visits are always inspiring, not least his programmes of Classical period music.  The Haydn brothers, Joseph and his younger sibling Michael, are contrasted here alongside their eighteenth century contemporary and close friend Mozart.  Joseph Haydn’s very first symphony, composed in 1759, is followed here by what some notable musicologists in fact regard as his very last actual symphonic piece, which would therefore be Symphony No. 105.  (Hoboken himself catalogued the work as such.)  However, the impressive work is of course widely known as Sinfonia Concertante for Violin, Cello, Oboe, and Bassoon.  Principal section players of the RBSO appear on stage together as soloists for this concert, which promises to be full of youthful vigour and energy.
